Terribly sorry that I haven't updated much in the past few days, I've been extremely busy with the last few weeks of classes. I will be done in about 2 weeks though, and I will have more time for blogging. I'm in the middle of an environmental ethics paper about sustainability... I'll post some good sites when I get a list of them put together.

Leg wax is the devil..

So I'm really lazy, and I hate shaving, so I figured I'd try to wax my legs. BAD IDEA. I bought some Sally Hansen leg wax stuff at Target, recruited the help of my boyfriend, and locked myself in the bathroom. It didn't hurt to pull off as much as I thought it would, but it left quite a few random hairs in some places. I also ran out of the little fabric squares that come with it before I got my legs finished. And to top it all off, there was wax all over my hands, legs, bathroom floor, towel, etc. That shit doesn't come off very easily, and it took a lot of oil stuff and a long bath before the wax was removed from my skin. My legs are still pretty hairy, and me and the razor will once again be bonding in the shower tomorrow morning. The boyfriend suggested I have my legs waxed by some sort of professional, but I'm pretty sure that's out of my price range. So unless I want to go "au natural", I'll have to content myself with shaving several times a wekk...

I had something rather important that I was intending to post about today, and I totally forgot what it was.... Damn that short-term memory loss...

Wait, I remember --- Kurt Vonnegut:
For anyone that hasn't heard about it yet, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. died earlier this week, and let me tell you, it made me pretty sad. For anyone that doesn't know, Vonnegut was a writer, mostly satirical science fiction stuff, VERY good. Breakfast of Champions, Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five -- you've probably heard of something he's written. And if you haven't -- shame on you. Go out tonight and pick up something of his, maybe two somethings if you're feeling up to some really good reading.

First off we have the Home Based Product blog, which gives tips for blogging and running a home-based web business. Another site related to making money is called just that: Making Money. This blog offers personal finance and investing tips, as well as a few sites you can make money at online. The next blog, TapCast, is mostly technology and business focused, although there are some post about ways to make money online, as well as lots of reviews. The fourth and final site for the day is a website by a first-time website designer, Naty Rosado. This site is the 65 year-old's personal homepage, and includes a little bit about her, as well as links to her artwork and her writings.

It's been a long week so far, and it's only Tuesday... First off I want to apologize for no updates in the past few days. Second, I will give another big review or something later this week. Right now I'm just slogging my way through lots of papers, reading, and working...

To tide you over, I recommend that you go watch Babel if you haven't seen it. Absolutely amazing movie, really. If you've seen it and would like to talk about it, feel free to send me and email or a comment, I would love to chat about it with you.

I found a really cool blog today from a guy who happened to stop by here, Wrath of Daniel. His blog has a monthly collection of mp3s from various indie bands, including Bright Eyes, Silverchair, Limbeck, Tokyo Police Club, and a billion others (ok, so that's a big of an exagerration, but you get the point). Someone just pointed out a news story to me about 4 5th graders in Louisiana who are facing charges for having sex in a classroom in front of the other students... Here is a little quote from the story (found on CBS news website):

Authorities said the incident happened March 27 at the school, which houses students from kindergarten through 12th grade. A high school teacher normally watches the fifth-grade class at the time, but went to an assembly for older students and the class was inadvertently left unattended, Buckley said.

The class, which had around 10 other students, was alone for about 15 minutes, he said.

"When no teacher showed up, the four began to have sex in the classroom with the other elementary students in the classroom with them," he said.

I don't even know where to start on that... How does that happen? They students weren't even caught by any teachers, one of the kids in the class told a high school student the next day, who in turn told a teacher. That is ridiculous. Seriously. When I was in 5th grade, I didn't even THINK about having sex, let alone doing it in front of my classmates in the middle of the classroom!?!?

The Beatles and Jefferson Airplane

I happen to be taking Pop Music this semester, and class has definitely reawakened my interest in older music, especially stuff from the late 60's psychedelic era (oh how I wish I had been in San Fransisco in the summer of '67...) Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of Beatles lately, and I have a few "current favorites," most notably "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" "Yellow Submarine" "Eleanor Rigby" "Glass Onion" and "I am the Walrus." I'm pretty sure that my roommates are sick of my playing Beatles songs over and over... That's why I also play some Jefferson Airplane from time to time! On that note, I would like to point out that Grace Slick has an amazing voice. By far my favorite album from Jefferson Airplane is Surrealistic Pillow, which contains my two favorite songs -- "White Rabbit" and "Embyronic Journey" (I have been playing music other than these two bands, of course, but they are currently the top contenders for most plays on my iPod...)

If you haven't listened to any Beatles or Jefferson Airplane lately, I would strongly suggest doing so. It's good for you heart and soul, I promise.

Little Miss Sunshine

Yet another GREAT movie that I watched this week is Little Miss Sunshine. This movie, released last fall by writer Michael Arndt and directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As the family drives cross-country in a VW bus to get their daughter Olive to California so she can participate in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant, they encounter obstacles that force them to work together. When it seems like everything is against them, the family pushes on towards their destination. The actors portrayed the members of this dysfunctional family perfectly. Little Miss Sunshine is the perfect comedy -- brilliant, uplifting, and so very human and identifiable. This movie has definitely made it's way into my top movies. GO WATCH IT!!

Me and You and Everyone We Know

I recently saw a really great movie called Me and You and Everyone We Know. The boyfriend and I found it on the shelf at the new Barnes & Noble in town, watched a preview of it on the handy screen, and decided to buy it. It was definitely a good purchase.

The movie is the full-length debut by indie film producer Miranda July. The plot centers around a shoe salesmen (John Hawkes), a father of two who has recently split up with his wife, and an eccentric artist (played by Miranda July). The various romances and encounters between the characters makes for a very fun, witty movie. I don't want to spoil the plot for you by giving away too many details, but this is definitely a movie you'll want to watch!
